I don't know about you, but this one made me laugh, and regret I couldn't recruit Bowman anymore (although for me Precis is still the better choice).
I don't think we needed to get the whole group inside, but I guess everyone had something they wanted to say, or possibly had the desire to look at the linguist straight in the face; after all they weren't treated very politely. Surely having Bowman mediate the conversation is a good thing, he can handle people of any kind. Now that I think about it, I doubt the game ever mentions any details about Bowman's universitary career (or lack thereof), nor his motives for dropping out; there's so much about the backstories of this game that it makes me wonder why they kept the worse parts instead...
